Impacting Teacher Training

The UN estimates that over the next 3 years nearly 5,000 new teachers will be required in Southern Sudan to fill the need created by the surge of returning refugee families whose children will be looking to enroll in schools. Also many school age people who were prevented from education because of the war are now enrolling in schools. These two things are putting a great strain on an already tenuous situation. The African Children's Choir founded a Teachers Training College to develop primary school teachers; it is the first such school in the south since the war broke out over 25 years ago. Our ministry targets the students in this college; evangelizing and discipling them preparing them to return to their home areas as Christian teachers and community leaders. Some will even go as bi-vocational pastor/school teachers. Hope For The Future impacts these students through several means. Mark Warkentin has taught a course in the college, and has a weekly devotional ministry there.  We bring international teams who conduct seminars on teaching methods, leadership development, and other appropriate subjects, and we provide a series of intensives over the two years the students are in the college that will prepare them for ministry. We have also planted a vibrant church near the college that is greatly impacting the students. Hope for the Future is reaching out to enable young Sudanese to become godly leaders in educational development.
