HIV Aids Awareness

The HIV/AIDS situation in Southern Sudan has dramatically changed since the signing of the peace accords in 2005.  At that time because of the isolation from the rest of east Africa , AIDS was very limited in the South.  However, just as many had feared, the thousands of returning refugees, primarily from the displaced persons camps in Kenya and Uganda, have brought this deadly disease back with them.  Hope For The Future sources in the military are very concerned that a high percentage of the new recruits are already infected.  There is a fear among Southern Sudanese government officials that these soldiers could spread the AIDS throughout the South.

We have distributed over 30,000 HIV/Aids awareness brochures, do community AIDS awareness workshops, and teach secondary students and the military about AIDS prevention.

It looks as if Aids is going to devastate Southern Sudan as it has Kenya and Uganda. Unfortunately many people in the South still have no knowledge of what AIDS really is , and they certainly don’t  have any understanding of the disaster that is already at work among them.  We are very committed to Aids awareness education and have given out thousands of pieces of AIDS awareness literature and are conducting awareness clinics.   The main focus of our AIDS awareness work is with the military and in school assemblies.
